Hatteras Island – Salvation Army is providing meals at the the Avon Volunteer Fire Department, the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Center and the Salvo Fire Department. Sunday (9/11/2011) will be the last day that the Salvation Army will be feeding in Salvo. They will continue to feed in Rodanthe and Avon. Meals will be served at 8:00 a.m., 12 noon and 6:00 p.m. Beginning September 6, 2011, the Buxton Methodist Church Food pantry will be open Tue and Wed from 1 to 3 pm. Clothing donations should be directed to Dillon’s Corner in Buxton where they have space available to receive and coordinate clothing donations. RODANTHE EMERGENCY SHELTER at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Building closed operations (09/06/2011). However, the Community Center will continue to be used as a feeding and distribution site. Anyone in need of housing should contact the Dare County Department of Social Services at 252-475-9320 or 252-475-5500 for assistance.
