Volunteers complete hospice by participating in heart-warming activities
that make hospice a program that "cares". Many new volunteers want to involve
themselves in 'respite' care, or patient care in the home. This invaluable service
provides the main caregiver a much-needed break from the constant emotional and physical
demands of caring for a terminally ill family member. Often, with the onset of a serious
illness in the home, time runs short for previously important jobs around the home.
Volunteers can help by taking care of odd jobs and providing companionship to a patient.
"Death
informs life". We learn that lesson well. Confronting death often proves to make life
more real and meaningful.
