Afternoon at the Movies
Ages: All ages

Participants will watch a Rated G or PG movie selected by the DCPR
staff. Popcorn, snacks, and drinks will be provided.
Beach Run Series
Ages: All ages
Cost: FREE
Place: Roanoke Island/Mainland Division
When: Spring Season
Runner’s compete on 5 Saturday’s in either the 1 mile or 5K. Races
begin at 9:00 a.m. at Jennette’s Pier.
Easter Egg Hunt
Ages: All ages
Cost: FREE
Place: All 3 Divisions
When: Springtime around Easter holiday
Children will participate in Easter egg hunts in their respective
age groups. All will enjoy fun games and activities, food, raffles
and prizes.
Fall Festival
Ages: Entire Community
Cost: FREE
Place: Roanoke Island/Mainland Division
When: Fall Season
Parks & Recreation would like all children and their families in our
community to know they are greatly appreciated. We will offer a
family fun filled day in which you can come out to the carnival to
eat, play games, win raffle prizes, and have lots of fun. All food,
games and activities are FREE.
Hershey Track & Field
Ages: 9-14 as of July
Cost: FREE
Place: All 3 Divisions participate at First Flight High School
(transportation will be provided)
When: Annually in Spring
PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED!
Participants may compete in only 3 events (this may be 2 running
events including the relay and a field event or 2 field events and a
running event). A participant may not compete in 3 running events.
Events include 50, 100, 200, & 400 meter dash, 800 and 1600 meter
run, 4 x 100 meter relay, standing long jump & the softball throw.
Winners will have the chance to compete at the regional level.
Madden NFL Challenge
Ages: 10-16
Cost: FREE
Place: Roanoke Island/Mainland Division
When: Annually in the winter season
The first 16 boys or girls to register are invited to participate in
the annual challenge using Playstation 2 or XBOX game consoles. You
can be a registered player or just come by and be a spectator. It is
a lot of fun.
National Clean Beaches Week
Ages: All ages
Cost: FREE
Place: Various beach locations in all 3 divisions
When: July (specific dates TBA)
Come out a join the DCPR staff as we clean up our beaches picking up
trash. We will also be providing fun games and contests throughout
the week such as beach volleyball, sand castle tournaments,
horseshoes tournaments and more.
Pitch, Hit, & Run
Ages: 7-14 as of July
Cost: Free
Place: All 3 Divisions
When: Spring Season
All participants must have a parent fill out and sign the official
Pitch, Hit & Run registration form which can be done the day of the
event and provide a copy of their child’s birth certificate. Boys &
Girls will compete together in 4 age groups; 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14
in 3 categories, running the bases, pitching and hitting a baseball.
Winners will be awarded with certificates and ribbons and will have
the chance to compete at the sectional level.
Punt, Pass & Kick
Ages: 8-15 as of December 31st
Cost: FREE
Place: All 3 Divisions
When: Fall Season
All participants must have a parent fill out and sign the official
Punt, Pass & Kick registration form which can be done the day of the
event and provide a copy of their child’s birth certificate. Boys
and girls compete in 3 categories, punting, passing, and kicking the
football in their age group. Participants with the best score in
individual events as well as best overall score will be awarded a
certificate and a ribbon and will have the chance to compete at the
regional level.
Skate Park Competition
Ages: 5 & up
Cost: FREE
Place: Hatteras Division
When: Annually in the fall
Street Course Contest and Bowl Contest
Competitions are for boys and girls. All participants MUST wear
helmets and pads. All participants need to pre-register and fill out
a waiver form. Registration ends 45 minutes prior to the competition
time the morning of the event.
Tides Baseball Game
Ages: 8-13
Cost: $15 + lunch and spending money
Place: Roanoke Island/Mainland Division
When: Summer Season
Participants will attend a Norfolk Tides baseball game.
Transportation included.
Volunteer Appreciation Days/Events
Ages: All volunteers all ages
Cost: FREE
Place: All 3 Divisions
When: Annually in the Spring during National Volunteer Appreciation
Week
All volunteers are invited to a cook-out or dinner in their honor.
The community is welcome to attend and join in thanking and
recognizing our wonderful volunteers. At this event our Volunteer of
the Year will be announced. Come join us for fun, food and prizes.
Youth Aviation Day
Ages: All ages
Cost: FREE (can good donation for the local food pantry is
appreciated)
Place: Roanoke Island/mainland Division
When: Annually in the spring season
Enjoy a fun-filled day of exploring aviation and other fun
activities like paper airplane contest, remote control car races,
and lots of other fun activities.
