The Dare County Parks & Recreation Department mission statement is committed to providing quality parks & recreation facilities, programs, and leisure opportunities for the citizens of Dare County.

Our Vision Statement is building community through people, parks, and recreational opportunities.

The Dare County Parks & Recreation Department was created in January of 1984. It consisted of a director, part-time secretary and a $70,000 budget. Today the department has a budget of 2.1 million dollars and twenty-seven full-time employees who serve the citizens of Dare County from three divisional offices. The Hatteras Island Division is served from the Fessenden Center in Buxton, the Northern Beach Division is served through the office at the Youth Center at Dare County Family Recreation Park in Kill Devil Hills and the Roanoke Island/Mainland Division is served through the office at the Lions Club Center at Westcott Park in Manteo.

The Public Services Director, Tim White administers the department through the Superintendent of Parks and the three Division Coordinators who work together to coordinate activity and facility needs on a daily basis.

Payments made to all Parks and Recreation locations are now being accepted by Visa, MasterCard and debit cards.
