Construction of the Dare County,
North Carolina Reverse Osmosis water treatment facility began in June 1988
with the completion, start-up and beneficial use of the product of the plant
occurring on August 9, 1989.
The cost of the building, eight
wells, 5.0 MG ground storage, with all production equipment and
appurtenances totaled just under $11 million to produce 3.0 million gallons
of water a day. Two additional wells 9 and 10 were brought on line in
December of 1994 at the cost of $1.539 Million. This amount included the
wells, four additional monitor wells, the pumps, construction, raw water
main construction, and all hydro geological and engineering fees.
TOURS: Due to Homeland Security issues, tours to the general public
are no longer available. Pre-arranged tours to official agencies and groups
are available upon request. Please contact the office for more information
on arranging these tours.
