 Unlike the NHC, which is fully operational only during
the hurricane season, the TAFB is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Its regular
responsibilities within the Tropical Prediction Center include the following products for
the tropics and subtropics:
- Marine high seas forecasts and warnings
- Tropical weather discussions
- Surface weather analyses and forecasts
- Aviation forecasts and hazards
During hurricane season, the TAFB also provides the following to the NHC:
- Satellite-derived tropical cyclone position and intensity estimates
- WSR-88D radar fixes for tropical cyclones
- Tropical cyclone forecast support
- Media support
